YAKAMA NATION FISHERIES ANNOUNCEMENT

May 9, 2008

 

The Yakama Nation Fish and Wildlife, Law and Order Committee closed the Platform/H&L fishery on the Columbia River .  The Regulation details are as follows:

·        Effective:                11:59 PM Saturday May 10, 2008 to 6 AM Monday June 16, 2008   OR until the Spring Chinook Runsize increases to a level where tribal harvest rate guideline will not be exceeded.     

·        Area:                      Zone 6 of the Columbia River AND the YN Fishery Below  Bonneville Dam.

·        Gear:                      Platforms/H&L

·        Below Bonn           The platform/h&l fishery below Bonneville Dam on the WA shore  will also close.    

·        Tributaries:             Tributary fisheries including the Wind, Klickitat and Big White Salmon Rivers and Drano Lake remain open on their regular weekly schedules.  Commercial Sale will continue in the Zone 6 Tributary Fisheries (Wind, Klickitat, and Big White Salmon Rivers and Drano Lake ).

 The Yakama Nation Fish and Wildlife, Law and Order Committee authorized the first Spring Commercial Gillnet Period.  The Season details are as follows:

·        Dates:                     6 AM Monday May 5 to 6 PM Thursday May 8, 2008  

·        Area:                      Zone 6 of the Columbia River

·        Gear:                      No Mesh Restriction

·        Sanctuaries:            Standard Sanctuaries, except none at Spring Creek NFH

·        Allowable Sales:     Chinook, Coho, Steelhead, Walleye, Shad, and Carp

·        Sturgeon:                No sales of Sturgeon allowed.  Sturgeon 4-feet to 5-feet in John Day and The Dalles Pools and 45-inches to 60-inches in the Bonneville Pool may be kept for subsistence. 

·        Platform/H&L:        Sales allowed from 6 AM May 5 Until Further Notice.  No sales of Sturgeon allowed.  Sturgeon, in the above mentioned size limits, may be kept for Subsistence.  Sunday Closures are still in effect. 

·        Below Bonn           The platform/h&l fishery below Bonneville Dam on the WA shore remains open for subsistence, but is not included in the commercial sale for Zone 6.  The YN and WA will be meeting to discuss this issue. 

·        Tributaries:             Sales are allowed from the Wind, Klickitat and Big White Salmon Rivers and Drano Lake on their regular weekly schedules.

Icicle River weekly fishing periods were expanded to opening 6 AM Tues mid-way through season

Klickitat River fishery did not close during month of June
